Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AIECTA)
1st December, 2022
Further to our bulletin earlier in the week about the passing through Parliament of the legislation for the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AIECTA)
Both parties have now confirmed that they have completed their domestic requirements and the AIECTA will as a result, come into force on 29 December 2022.
Similar to the China-Australia FTA. The terms of the Agreement require that a Certificate of Origin be issued by an approved issuing authority for goods to be eligible for any tariff reduction under the Agreement. At this point we haven’t been advised as to who are the approved issuing authorities.

Trade deals with India and the UK have passed Parliament
29th November, 2022
The legislation for the Free Trade Agreements negotiated with both the United Kingdom (A-UKFTA) and India (ECTA) has now passed through Australian Parliament.
The ECTA and A-UKFTA will enter into force 30 days (or another mutually agreed time) after the respective parties have confirmed in writing that they have completed their domestic requirements.
The Government is working to advance all processes necessary, to ensure Australia is in a position to implement both of these free trade agreements before the end of 2022.
We will be monitoring progress and will advise as soon as a firm commencement date is known.
