Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement
12th February, 2020
Dear Client,
Please be advised that the Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement (PAFTA) enters into force on 11 February 2020.
From this date tariffs for 96 per cent of tariff lines for goods produced in Peru will be removed.
Like Australia’s other FTA’s the PAFTA has it’s own set of rules of origin to determine whether goods are considered originating goods.
Goods may be considered Peru originating goods if they are:
1. wholly obtained or produced in Peru:
2. produced in Peru exclusively from originating materials;
3. produced in Peru using non originating materials provided they meet the Product Specific Rules of Origin.
Unlike the Australia-China FTA there is no requirement for a third party certification. Declaration of compliance by the supplier is sufficient provided the declaration meets Minimum Data Requirements.
Full details can be found at the Dept. of Foreign Affairs website https://dfat.gov.au/trade/agreements/in-force/pafta/Pages/peru-australia-fta.aspx
Please do not hesitate to contact a member of your Southern Cross Customs Team if you need any further information or assistance with the requirements of the new FTA.
