Potential UPS Teamsters Strike, August 1st 2023
The potential strike by UPS Teamsters is causing widespread concern throughout global supply chains. As negotiations between UPS and the Teamsters stagnate, businesses worldwide are preparing for potential disruptions to shipping and logistics services. The implications of UPS teamsters striking are significant, UPS delivers 24.3 million packages globally, there is no network capable of covering this volume should a strike occur. E-commerce businesses are heavily dependent on couriers and will need to have contingency plans in place. With the USA being a key trade lane for SCC and our customers we are working very closely with our USA partners on plans to mitigate any disruptions should the strike proceed.
Canadian Port Strikes
For the last few weeks sea freight shipments from Canada have been experiencing delays as a result of strikes from portside employees, the dispute is still not resolved however union leaders have told members to accept a new deal and this expected to be signed off this coming Tuesday, we will monitor this closely as agreement have been dissolved before they have started previously. Some delays will continue for sea freight ex Canadian origins.
Air freight update
Capacity for air freight cargo continues to improve, and we are seeing a decline in rates not only from the USA and EU hubs but also from Asian origins. At SCC, one of our marquee offerings is air freight services from the USA to AU. For more information about our air freight consolidation services, feel free to contact us at sales@sccargo.com.au.
Sea Freight update
There are signs that the ongoing blank sailings from the shipping lines are starting to have an effect on bookings. Space has tightened up because of this plus there has been an uptick in volumes, certainly no increase in volume to the extent that we would normally experience this time of the year, but an increase on previous months. This will likely present an opportunity for the shipping lines to increase some rates in the near future. Particularly ex China they have been at historic lows for months now, even though peak season will not see the usual increases, the combination of blank sailings and some volume increase will likely see some increases in August.

SCC 20 year Celebration
Recently we celebrated the 20 year journey of Southern Cross Cargo. Founded by Gino DeLuca and family, this milestone is a testament to our company’s unwavering dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. The SCC team today are very thankful that Gino had the courage and foresight to start this wonderful company. Over the last 5 and half years Greg, Paul and Vanessa have taken the reigns at SCC. It is a privilege for each of them to now own and run SCC. Building on the work that Gino had commenced, we are proud to have grown our team from 4 in 2017 to 18 exceptional individuals today.

We are immensely grateful to our global partners for their unwavering support, as well as our customer base, whom we dedicate our time to serving with excellence and convenience.
